sleep masksOne of the best ways to improve your wellbeing, help your skin, and general show yourself love and care is by doing your best to get a good nights sleep whenever you can.

I have often described myself as a grown-up toddler. If I don’t get enough sleep or enough to eat I am a horror! Since having my kid I’ve come to realise just how important sleep is, and not just any sleep, but good quality sleep.

I would say I am probably sleeping less than before in total, but I am doing my best to ensure that what sleep I do get is better quality, I am drinking less caffeine and more water when I can, as well as trying to switch off my phone and iPad earlier to avoid the blue light.

There are so many benefits to getting a good nights sleep, from better memory and concentration (hello baby brain!) to health improvements. Good sleep is linked to better mental health and some health improvements. A recent article on healthline has a whole list of other reasons good sleep is important.

Other ways that you can help improve the quality of sleep you are getting include:

  • Creating a restful sleep space – whatever that means to you, whether it is using soft colours, or big fluffy covers, looking forward to sinking into your bed is a wonderful way to create a restful environment
  • Stick to sleep schedule that works for you as much as you can. Getting into a routine is helpful.
  • Make sure you get fresh air each day – I can’t tell you how much this helps me!
